What's new in HPE APOLLO 4200 GEN10

Updates in the presented server are:

  • support for HPE 16TB SAS and SATA Business Critical 7.2K hard drives for up to 448TB of free space on Large Form Factor (LFF) models;
  • support for HPE High Read Ratio (VRO) SATA SFF and LFF SSDs. VRO SSDs are based on QLC NAND memory technology and are grouped into different levels of endurance for specific read-oriented workloads;
  • improved design of the rear disc sockets. It allows you to install up to 6 SFF NVMe Solid State Drives (SSDs), and new SFF drive options can be used: from 800 GB to 15.36 TB with NVMe read-intensive and mixed use;
  • availability of an updated Pensando Distributed Services Platform (DSP), which is equipped with a set of software-defined network services and security systems - a firewall, micro-segmentation and telemetry of high power and scalability;
  • support for encryption functionality and adaptation to storage performance requirements provided by flexible HPE Smart Array Gen10 controllers.

Benefits of the updated HPE APOLLO 4200 GEN10 Plus System

The updated version of the Apollo 4200 Gen10 server with the Plus prefix differs from the base model in increased memory and storage sizes, which makes this new product a good solution for systems "tied" to analytics and tasks related to the development of artificial intelligence.

HPE APOLLO 4200 GEN10 Plus System is characterized by:

  • improved HPE NS204i-p OS boot system. This is a dedicated hardware RAID1 solution that allows you to automatically mirror the OS to two connected M.2 NVMe SSDs;
  • HPE DDR4 SmartMemory up to 2933/2666 MT/s;
  • a sorting system that alternately connects out-of-band management network ports;
  • HPE Smart Array P824i-p MR Gen10 12G SAS PCIe controller support;
  • 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Ice Lake-SP Scalable Processors.

All models of the Apollo 4200 Gen10 Plus server family support up to 28 LFF drives or 56 SFF drives. Note that nearline class LFF drives can be up to 18 TB for HDD, up to 7.68 TB for SATA SSD and up to 3.84 TB for SAS SSD. The far bays support the installation of SFF / LFF drives of various models, including NVMe SSDs. These servers have 3 TB of RAM (compared to 2 TB for the previous generation). Connection to servers is made through various PCIe adapters - InfiniBand HDR, FC32 and 200GbE.

These benefits make HPE APOLLO 4200 GEN10 Plus servers suitable for hyper-converged infrastructures (HCIs) that work with large amounts of data.

Application area

The versatility of the presented equipment makes it promising for such areas as:

  • analytical tasks;
  • machine learning;
  • collection of information;
  • updating and upgrading hyper converged infrastructures (HCI).

The presented server solution is most often used to support critical computing, analyze large amounts of information, support information resources from various vendors, work in a dynamically changing information environment, and work with business intelligence applications.
